Attention deficit disorder is a neurobiological disorder that manifests itself in difficulty concentrating over time, inability to handle tasks from start to finish, as well as hyperactive and impulsive behavior.

The symptoms of the disorder vary not only from person to person, but also in the person himself according to changing physiological and environmental conditions.

One of the most significant challenges among those suffering from attention deficit disorder is the difficulty in organizing.

Other challenges that mainly affect children and youth and affect all walks of life are difficulty concentrating, impulsivity and mobility.

Any challenge can be faced, but there are various events that are especially difficult for those dealing with attention deficit disorder.

One of the examples is Purim.

On the one hand, it is a day that is a kind of dream come true for many children: finally, costumes, package deliveries, noise and mess, are a legitimate part of the daily routine.

On the other hand, the holiday may have a long-term effect and throw those dealing with attention deficit disorder out of balance.

A holiday designed to dismantle the framework.

Purim is essentially a holiday designed to break down the framework, and children with attention deficit disorder need boundaries that allow organization and understanding of how to properly behave within the situation.

The antralmusia on this day may increase impulsivity, the lack of understanding when a line has been crossed that hurts others and when the behavior is dangerous.

Beyond that, the framework helps maintain concentration - and on Purim, when everything is reversed, the difficulty for those dealing with attention disorders becomes significant.

People with attention deficit disorder often face difficulty in sensory regulation.

Many of the costumes consist of itchy fabrics or hats that cause discomfort and restlessness.

Sometimes the parent who invested the best of his money in a costume will find himself frustrated in front of a child who is not ready to dress up on the day of the holiday.

The same difficulty in sensory regulation is also reflected in everything related to the noise and mess that characterizes the holiday.

People with attention deficit disorder are particularly sensitive to stimuli from the environment and when the stimuli increase, there may be a greater flood from which it is difficult to recover.

One of the consequences of dealing with attention deficit disorder is a tendency to addictions.

Consumption of alcohol or smoking among teenagers is an overwhelmingly problematic phenomenon.

But teenagers with attention deficit disorder who experiment with smoking or alcohol consumption during the holiday, will not always know where the line is and when what started as an experiment deteriorates into dangerous behavior.

Furthermore, those suffering from attention deficit disorder have a tendency to impulsive eating and obesity and it may be difficult for them to deal with deliveries of high-sugar dishes.

As of today, there is no unequivocal proof that sugar consumption worsens attention deficit disorder, but it is certainly not beneficial.

So how can you deal with it?

First, it is recommended to organize in advance and coordinate expectations with the child for the holiday.

Beyond that, every child needs boundaries, especially a child with attention deficit disorder.

Therefore, it is recommended to define in advance, while listening and talking with the child, which behavior is acceptable on the holiday and which is less so.

The events of the holiday often last throughout the day, therefore it is recommended to adhere to medication, especially patients taking treatment that has an effect for long hours.

Regarding the costume, if it is a child who suffers from difficulty with sensory regulation, it is recommended to organize ahead of time a costume that not only looks good, but also one that will be comfortable and pleasant for the person who is supposed to wear it throughout the day.

Despite the challenges, Purim is also a holiday that has benefits for those dealing with attention deficit disorder.

For example, children and youth with attention deficit disorder often also suffer from learning difficulties.

Purim is an opportunity to bring another side to the front of the stage and give expression to qualities such as creativity and thinking outside the box that also characterize those dealing with attention deficit disorder.

To conclude, Purim is a holiday that in its essence is meant to bring out the deep interior of a person and to understand that the exterior is just a costume.

This is a wonderful opportunity for parents to convey to their children the message that ADHD and the external effects it brings with it is not the only thing that defines them and to encourage the children to express their rich inner world all year round.
