Unfortunately, every year, along with the joy of Purim, children injured by the use of jumpers and explosives arrive in the emergency room.

Parents and children often see explosives as an innocent and fun game to use, but the truth is that using explosives of all kinds can easily lead to actual injuries, finger amputations, eye injuries, hand burns and exploding pants pockets.

It is important to know that this is an explosive material for all intents and purposes, therefore the safety recommendation of an organization prior to child safety is to completely avoid the use of all types of dangerous toys.

According to data from the organization Before Children's Safety, in the last decade, 230 children came to the emergency room with injuries as a result of the use of explosives.

Of the total cases of referrals to the emergency room, 70 cases were of children under the age of 10. The data also shows that 40 percent of the total injuries were eye injuries, and 20 percent were hand injuries.

Distribution and use is prohibited.

How do we distinguish which toys are dangerous to use?

In the Ministry of Economy and Industry, dangerous toys are defined as toys the use of which may cause bodily harm, endanger public health or cause harassment and panic (due to the noise of the explosion), stimulation, image and weapons that are similar in shape to real weapons.

There are also products that are not allowed for sale and distribution and are prohibited from use.

The inter-ministerial committee for dangerous toys distinguishes between products that are prohibited for sale and use and those that are permitted.

Toys that are allowed to be used are marked according to law in Hebrew, including manufacturer and importer details, instructions for use, warnings and age restrictions.

What are the products that are prohibited for sale, distribution and use?

  • Firecrackers, explosives, rockets, firecrackers, beehives of any kind, stink sprays, any object or item containing black gunpowder or other explosive material

  • Guns / pistols (firearm-like)

  • Snow sprays of various types - prohibited for sale to children

  • Category 3 and 4 laser markers

  • Dangerous toys that transmit an electric current

It is important to note that the popsicles, for example, are not prohibited by law, but the instructions for use state that you should not keep them in your pocket or unpack them from their original packaging for fear that they might explode in your pocket and cause injury to the palm of your hand.
