On this Thursday, March 2, there is a joyous hubbub at 3537. Come to present his exhibition "GSM" (1), to discover from March 3 to 10 and composed of shots taken with the iPhone, the photographer Axel Morin presented these images as part of a lively opening in Paris.
His photographs of urban landscapes, which play on contrasts, lines and movement, blended perfectly with the industrial decor of the cultural space, whose roughness echoed those of the cities immortalized by the artist.
On the menu: lights that can be seen through raindrops, an imposing billboard with a black screen, or even a plastic bag carried away by the wind.
“What fascinates me in urban landscapes is that there is poetry in every moment, explained the artist to
Madame Figaro
.
The city is a living painting, it moves all the time.
By capturing a stolen moment, you create your own painting.
An idea that recalls that of the "decisive moment" - a suspended moment -, born thanks to Henri Cartier-Bresson.

A “human” series
During the evening, the many guests and the buzz of conversations contrasted with the absence of human beings on the works presented, immortalized between 2015 and 2022. A will assumed by Axel Morin, who intends above all to demonstrate “ the beauty of the city" - of the one to which "one does not always pay attention".
However, in this series of shots, the human being is never far away.
“It was humans who created this urban landscape,” emphasizes Axel Morin.
We don't have to show them.
There is a life in itself behind these shots.
A life to which the energy conveyed by his postmodern photography, his videos and the soundtrack of the exhibition testify.
Produced in Spatial Audio by French producer Damien Quintard, it has been available on Apple Music since March 2.
no apologies
The co-founder of Miraval Studios was himself won over by the "simplicity" of Axel Morin's work.
“I find it beautiful and touching that one can create such human works of art, with so few things, enthuses Damien Quintard.
I liked this

now, if you want to make art, all the tools are in your pocket.”
To create this soundtrack, the producer brought together sounds of everyday life recorded by Axel Morin, such as a horn, a sneeze or a car starting.
From this Friday, March 3, the public will therefore be able to discover the photographer's works with, in the background, a real urban jungle.
Visitors' footsteps will lead them to end up in a video room, a kind of "emotional end cocktail", where the images come alive to the music of Damien Quintard.
A way to be amazed, before, perhaps, an "episode 2"?
Because Axel Morin does not intend to stop in such a good way.
“This series will never stop, because that's what I capture every day, concludes this former artistic director who has produced campaigns for Dior, Hermès and Louis Vuitton.
These are images that I steal every day.
This personal project is the story of a life.”
