After the deadly shots at a 16-year-old youth in Bramsche near Osnabrück, the autopsy result is available.
In addition to a serious brain injury, a gunshot wound in the lower leg was also found, a spokesman for the Osnabrück public prosecutor told the dpa news agency.
The suspect has not yet commented.
The 81-year-old referred to his right to refuse to testify, the spokesman said.
The investigations are currently concentrating on evaluating the evidence and comparing it with the statements of witnesses.
Motive still unclear
On Tuesday morning, the 16-year-old was attacked in front of the house by the 81-year-old with a gun.
The teenager died of his injuries on Wednesday evening.
The 81-year-old had also fatally injured himself with a pistol, but is no longer in mortal danger.
The motive for the crime is still unclear, it said.
Both lived in the apartment building, which is directly opposite an elementary school.
According to the public prosecutor's office, the accused was a marksman and the murder weapon, a small-caliber pistol, was a marksman's weapon.
The public prosecutor's office was initially unable to answer the question of whether the man was allowed to own the weapon.
An arrest warrant for murder and attempted manslaughter was issued against the man, who has Italian citizenship.
As soon as he is transportable, he is to be taken to a judicial hospital.
