Leonora Hampel from the Miesbach high school found the topic of teleportation so exciting that she took part in the “Youth Presents” school competition with a presentation and won first place.
Who presents a scientific-mathematical topic best?
That's what "Youth Presents" is all about, a nationwide project of the Klaus Tschira Foundation.
150 students took part in the school competition at the Miesbach grammar school, twelve from three grades now competed in the "final".
Leonora Hampel from the 10th class convinced the jury with her presentation, followed by Quirin Bauer and Sophia Schreiner with "Flame zu Feuer" and "Gebelgesetze" and Charlotte Dettman with "Why are brake lights red?"
The jury, which included science teachers as well as student Laura Bennike, who won the audience award in the final in Berlin in 2019 as second national winner, made sure that the content was factually correct.
In addition, the topic should be prepared in a manner appropriate to the addressee and presented in a rhetorically confident manner, as Klaus Masch, who oversees the school competition, explains.
Enthusiasm and sovereignty were therefore required to win the audience over to the topic.
With the victory at the high school, the four students are qualified for the state finals in Nuremberg.
This is linked to an invitation to a presentation academy: training with professionals from the seminar for general rhetoric at the University of Tübingen, which prepares for the national final in September.
In addition to the training, there is a supporting program all about the natural sciences.
So the effort must have been worth it for the students.
