Because of the possible defusing of three aerial bombs from the Second World War, thousands of people in Laatzen near Hanover have to leave their homes and apartments today.
It is one of the largest evacuations in the city's history.
The city administration has set up a staff for months to coordinate the measures.
Almost all streets in the Laatzen-Mitte area and in parts of Grasdorf and Rethen have to be evacuated, as a spokeswoman for the city of Laatzen announced.
This also includes some areas of the Kronsberg and the Expo Park Süd in Hanover.
Accommodation will be set up in a school for the people affected.
Citizens can find out more about the measures on the website of the city of Laatzen.
During the defusing, parts of the Autobahn 37 and the federal roads 443 and 6 are to be completely closed and two light rail lines are to be canceled.
The police will also block all access roads leading to the evacuation area from Sunday morning at 7 a.m.
The work should be completed by Sunday evening.
