In the case of the violently killed 19-year-old in Bramsche, the investigators assume that the victim and the alleged perpetrator knew each other.
"We assume that the two did not meet for the first time," said the spokesman for the Osnabrück public prosecutor's office, chief public prosecutor Alexander Retemeyer.
The exact relationship between the man and the woman is still part of the investigation.
A homicide squad was set up.
The act happened on the sidelines of a birthday party with around 150 guests.
The police had arrested almost all visitors to the Schützenhalle with a large contingent in order to take personal details and conduct initial interviews.
These would have given clues to the 20-year-old suspect, who was then arrested in his apartment.
According to the public prosecutor's office, an autopsy of the body was carried out on Sunday.
The result should not initially be announced for investigative reasons, said the spokesman.
The alleged perpetrator has not yet provided any information on the allegations.
Based on the way the young woman's body was found, investigators are assuming a homicide as well as a sex crime.
An arrest warrant was issued against the suspect on suspicion of murder on Sunday.
According to initial findings, the 19-year-old went missing around 1.30 a.m. during the celebration of an 18th birthday.
Guests would have looked for them together and found them seriously injured in a meadow, police and prosecutors said.
Death was then pronounced in the hospital.
Crime scene Bramsche
The Lower Saxony municipality of Bramsche, with around 32,000 inhabitants, hit the headlines just a few days ago with a violent crime.
An 81-year-old shot a teenager in front of an elementary school.
The 16-year-old was injured so badly that he died in a clinic on Wednesday evening.
The alleged shooter inflicted life-threatening injuries on himself after the attack on the youth.
He has not been in mortal danger since Wednesday.
As soon as he is transportable, the police say he will be transferred to a prison hospital.
