The Council of Ministers convened by President Giorgia Meloni for Thursday 9 March, in relation to the shipwreck of the boat loaded with migrants on 26 February, will be held in the council chamber of the Municipality of Cutro.

The mayor of the center of Crotone, Antonio Ceraso, told ANSA.

"We have a perfectly adequate council room - said Ceraso -. I would have gladly done without a government meeting in Cutro, because I would never have wanted a similar tragedy to occur right here, but President Meloni's initiative is a beacon on what happened so that it never happens again".

"The decision to convene the Council of Ministers in Cutro after what happened in front of our coast - added the mayor Ceraso - demonstrates that there is adequate attention from the State. The problem now, however, is to find a strategy to be brought to the European level to prevent similar tragedies from happening in the future".

"The method that is followed to manage these situations - the mayor of Cutro said again - is not up to me. However, we need to reflect on how these trips take place and why nothing is done to prevent them. These people arrive out of desperation and, in order to leave their countries, they also take into account the risk of their lives. It is on this that adequate reflection is needed. My thoughts remain fixed on the victims and on the immense tragedy we have experienced.

And what I wonder how do the relatives of the victims to resign themselves to what happened.

The drama they are experiencing is immense.

Just as I wonder how the survivors think of continuing to live".

First burials for shipwreck victims

.

In the late afternoon the first coffin, that of a 24-year-old Afghan boy, Nizami Hamid, left the funeral home set up in the Palamilone.

The inhumation according to the Muslim ritual, at the request of relatives, will take place on Tuesday in the Crotone cemetery.

As far as the other bodies are concerned, there are about forty transfer requests so far.

The requests, collected through third sector operators and officials of the municipalities of Crotone and Cutro, were presented to the Prefecture of Crotone.

Attention remains high on the issue of migrants after the tragic shipwreck of Cutro, where the government has convened a Council of Ministers to be held on Thursday afternoon.

The President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella calls on Italy and the EU so that "condolences are transformed into concrete choices".

Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani explains that Italy will open up to tens of thousands of regular migrants.

Meanwhile, the European Commission has announced that a response to the letter from Italian Prime Minister Gioregia Meloni will arrive "soon".

On the judicial front, the probation session in which the survivors of the shipwreck will be heard may take place next week.

In the meantime, the Rome prosecutor's office has also opened an investigation against unknown persons after the complaint of three parliamentarians.

Pope: Renew your commitment to hospitality.

We need "a renewed commitment to fostering the spirit of welcome and solidarity" towards migrants "thus promoting peace and the fraternity of peoples".

The Pope says so in a message to the "Chair of hospitality" training course.

"His Holiness - reads the message signed by Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin - encourages us to consider the presence of so many migrant brothers and sisters as an opportunity for human growth, encounter and dialogue between cultures and religions".

Parolin: stop the smugglers, we all agree

.

On what the Pope said was to stop the traffickers "I think we all agree given that there was also a comment from the Prime Minister, she said she was in great agreement with the Pope, the people who a little bit of common sense and good will converge on this appeal", "I believe that solutions must be found at a political level and above all through collaboration between all European states", said the Vatican secretary of state, Cardinal Pietro Parolin.

Mattarella: "Condolences should be transformed into concrete choices"

"Faced with the dramatic event that took place on the Calabrian coast, condolences must be translated into concrete, operational choices by everyone, Italy and the EU, because this is the real answer ".

This was stated by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, speaking at the University of Basilicata about the Cutro tragedy.

"

A tragedy occurred on the coasts of Calabria that involved and moved our country

.

The Afghan refugees reminded us of what our country did two years ago, with the Taliban taking over power, to bring all the citizens who collaborated to Italy.

No one was left, everyone was welcomed in Italy.

We are reminded of the scenes of citizens begging for a ride at the airport and make us understand why entire families are trying to leave their land to seek a future elsewhere," Mattarella underlined.

Migrant shipwreck, in Cutro Via Crucis for the victims

Urso: "A few words from Piantedosi may have appeared inappropriate but the actions count" "

It is clear that in that moment of great emotion a few words may have appeared inappropriate but what counts are the actions that the government and all the more Minister Piantedosi has implemented immediately and I think this is acceptable not by the majority but I think by the citizens and this will also be seen in the subsequent steps in Parliament and in the subsequent actions of our government".

The Minister of Enterprise and Made in Italy Adolfo Urso said on Sky Tg 24 speaking of the statements of the Minister of the Interior after the shipwreck of Cutro, then underlining: "There is a need for cohesion, Italy is demonstrating it ".

Tajani: "We will open up to tens of thousands of legal migrants"

"We must encourage legal immigration. We can bring tens of thousands of legal immigrants to Italy, trained in their countries, because our companies need them. Then we need investments: the Italy can do a lot but risks being a drop in the bucket in the matter of migration. Italy alone is not enough because the phenomenon is too big, more European solidarity is needed".

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani told Tgcom 24.

THE INVESTIGATIONS

The probative incident requested by the Prosecutor of Crotone to the investigating magistrate could take place next week to crystallize the testimonies of the survivors

of the shipwreck of the boat full of migrants on 26 February in Steccato di Cutro and which caused 70 victims and an unknown number of dispersed.

In Prosecutor's Office circles, it should be noted that these days are necessary to allow notification to all parties involved, including the families of the victims who could then sue for civil action.

The setting of the hearing by the investigating judge of Crotone has therefore not yet taken place.

Then, from the notification of the investigating magistrate, at least two days must pass before the actual performance.

Then all the surviving migrants will be heard, who at this moment, as a practice, are under investigation for a crime related to illegal immigration.

A practice that normally ends with the acquittal.

Six of them have already been heard by the police for summary information, in relation to the position and identification of the smugglers who have been arrested.

The Prosecutor of Crotone assures: the reconstruction of communications is well advanced

.

"We are trying hard, we are at a good point in rebuilding the communications network that took place before the event," Crotone prosecutor Giuseppe Capoccia told reporters, arriving at the courthouse.

"As we have said from the very first moment - he maintained - we are acquiring all the elements connected to this story and what concerns the moments preceding the disaster. We are already at a point of a certain interest. We are collecting all the documents".

"Why was the vessel left alone? Good question. The second file? No further statements," he cut short.

"

There will be no communication from us until we have reached points of certainty about what happened before the fact

.

Everything that comes out certainly doesn't come out of our offices," she stressed.

Shipwreck Cutro, the prosecutor: 'Reconstruction of communications at a good point'

Meanwhile, the Public Prosecutor's Office of Rome has opened, as a duty, an investigation file on the shipwreck of Cutro after a complaint presented by the MPs Ilaria Cucchi, Angelo Bonelli and Nicola Fratoianni

.

The proceeding was classified according to model 45, i.e. without suspects and hypotheses of crime.

The complaint asked the Capitoline prosecutors to evaluate the ministerial responsibilities in relation to the rescue machine.

Based on what has been learned, the magistrates of Piazzale Clodio will have to evaluate, after having studied the complaint, whether to send the file to their colleagues in the Crotone prosecutor's office for territorial jurisdiction.

Palazzo Chigi reiterates the government's unity on immigration and denies the rumors of a difference of views between Prime Minister Meloni and Minister Piantedosi.

"The indiscretions that appeared in some press organs relating to a summons to Palazzo Chigi of the Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piantedosi, and to alleged differences on the internal line of the Government on immigration, are literally invented and therefore devoid of any foundation", we read in a note from Palazzo Chigi.
