The potted plants have spent a long time in the winter quarters.

Now it's time to put them back in the fresh air.

But not without doing a few things first.

Most potted plants have spent the cold months well protected in the basement or garage or in the attic - in the winter quarters.

This allowed them to spend their dormant period well protected and perhaps only occasionally disturbed by their humans, who would inspect them for damage or pests.

But so that they can now also survive the step outside well, the owners should now pay attention to a few things.

Preparing potted plants for spring: get used to the light slowly

In Keller and Co. it was comparatively dark.

And like us humans, who have to get used to the light again after a long period of darkness, one should also deal with plants.

Before the potted plants are placed directly from the winter quarters on the balcony or in the garden, a transitional place should be found.

Ideally, this is neither as dark as the winter quarters nor as bright as it will be outside.

Here the little plant can get used to the new light conditions for a few days before it goes outside.

Before you put potted plants on the terrace, balcony and generally in the garden in spring, you should carefully get them used to the light and the temperatures.

A closer look at the potted plants: check for pests

Even if you have checked on the guests in the winter quarters from time to time, it can happen that pests have been overlooked.

Now it's time to examine the plants very carefully.

Look especially at new shoots, their delicate green is not only beautiful to look at, but also delicious.

Aphids can be collected or showered off, and some household remedies or beneficial insects in general can help with spider mites.

Where does the bucket go: Choose the location cleverly

Once the plants have gotten used to the new light conditions outside of their winter quarters, they need a lot of it.

A conservatory, a small greenhouse or a bright stairwell would be ideal.

In addition, all variants should always be ventilated when the temperatures are mild outside.

By the way, particularly sensitive plants should only go outside after the ice saints (2023: May 11th to 15th).
