Rumor has it that the PS5 will break if you stand it up.
An expert clarifies whether the vertical position really causes a defect.
Hamburg – When Sony unveiled the PS5 for the first time, the design promptly caused a lot of conversation.
The white color did not please some PlayStation fans.
But another topic was also hotly debated: the right position.
Do you place them horizontally or vertically?
Two years later, reports circulated that the PS5 could sooner or later be irreparably damaged in the vertical position due to a design flaw.
Should owners be worried or not, an expert steps in.

PS5 Won't Be Damaged When Standing Upright - Expert Backs Out
What was claimed?
Site Wololo.net, citing various hardware repair shops, reported that the PS5's liquid metal could leak in the upright position.
This could lead to short circuits, which in the worst case would cause the console to stop working after a while.
Is this information about the PS5 correct?:
It can actually happen that the liquid metal escapes, but only if the console is not screwed on properly.
Wololo.net has now made that clear.
If the PS5 has to be opened for repair purposes or for other reasons, then this should definitely be done by a specialist.
This is well illustrated on TikTok by Lukas from repair4u_official - he has already published several videos on the PS5 and is familiar with the topic:

PS5 horizontal or vertical: does it make a difference?
How should one position the PS5?
PS5 owners don't have to worry about the console being damaged in one position or the other.
In principle, it doesn't matter how it is placed.

Sony's hardware architect, Yasuhiro Otori, explained shortly after the PlayStation 5's launch that position has no bearing on the console's cooling performance.
He himself prefers vertical placement - simply for aesthetic reasons.
If you don't own a PS5 yet, you now have a good chance of acquiring one.
More and more retailers are offering PS5 bundles.
