(ANSA) - ROME, MARCH 09 - Camila Giorgi passes the first round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Indian Wells, California.
The 31-year-old tennis player from the Marches number 46 in the world beat the 32-year-old Dutch Arantxa Rus (n.130) 6-3 6-3 and now she will have to contend with the 29-year-old American Jessica Pegula, n.3 in the ranking and seeding.
In the last round of qualifying Rus eliminated Sara Errani.
The 35-year-old from Bologna n.97 of the WTA ranking and 14th of the series of the Californian draw was defeated by 7-6(1) 6-3.
In addition to Giorgi, there are four other blue women competing in the Indian Wells main draw: Martina Trevisan, Elisabetta Cocciaretto, Jasmine Paolini and Lucia Bronzetti.
