To guarantee disabled children in Cameroon medical care and physiotherapy, education, nutrition, protection and social inclusion, Dokita Onlus yesterday launched the awareness and fundraising campaign 'Tutti Uguali', which can be supported until 18 March 2023 and from 3 to 9 April 2023 with a text message or call to the solidarity number 45580. "In the world more than 100 million children are disabled and they represent one of the most marginalized groups in society: every day they are forced to deal with discrimination, lack of adequate laws which denies them the right to health care, to education", is written in the press release announcing the campaign.
"In particular, in Cameroon, over 23% of children between the ages of 2 and 9 are affected by at least one type of disability caused, in 65% of cases, by infectious diseases that have not yet been eradicated such as polio, malaria, leprosy or measles", it adds.
"Being a disabled child in Cameroon means not having access to medical services, not being able to attend school and not being able to receive adequate nutrition. They are 'invisible' children condemned to a future of marginalization and abandonment, also because they are often it is precisely the families who drive them away, both due to lack of economic resources and due to cultural heritage ", is explained in the note.
