Mafia repentant Gaspare Spatuzza, 59 years old, of whom 26 years spent between prison and house arrest, obtained conditional release.
Corriere della Sera writes it, explaining that for two weeks he no longer has the constraints of home detention to which he was subjected since 2014.
For five years he will have to observe certain prescriptions, such as not "habitually" associating with offenders, or not leaving the province in which he lives without authorisation.
Spatuzza was arrested in 1997. Sentenced to life imprisonment for the massacres, after 11 years in prison he decided to speak to the magistrates.
Moreover, his statements served to send Matteo Messina Denaro to trial for the massacres of Capaci and via D'Amelio, a proceeding still in progress before the assize court of appeal of Caltanissetta.
During his detention, Spatuzza began a process of religious conversion and asked forgiveness from the victims.
The decision on conditional release came after the Supreme Court, last April, annulled the order of the Surveillance Court of Rome which had previously denied conditional release.
Now the new pronouncement of the Surveillance itself, on the favorable opinion of the anti-mafia prosecutors consulted.
