"Everything was different in the past" - some of you probably know this saying from your grandmother, and it's true in many ways.

Certainly some things weren't necessarily easier in the past.

But there were a few things that were particularly special for the children of earlier generations: listening to cassettes and always fast-forwarding or rewinding to a special point, recording your favorite series on the video recorder, writing letters to your best friend in the most beautiful handwriting on paper, independently when it’s windy and weather walk to school or regularly borrow books from the library.

A lot has changed: while children used to use the cassette or video recorder in analogue form, today only the app or podcast is downloaded digitally.

The generation of parents and grandparents cultivated the authoritarian style of upbringing, which often involved slapping and children should be independent from an early age - nowadays you tend to encounter helicopter parents who literally circle around their children.

The latter can mean that children today learn crucial things late or not at all, as critical educators claim.
