"There is total alignment between the US and the EU on concerns over China's economic behaviour".
A senior US administration official said this in a briefing with a small group of journalists regarding the meeting
today in Washington between Joe Biden and the president of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen
.
In the last year "there has been a convergence of US and EU positions with respect to Beijing".
"The president intends to reaffirm the importance of US-EU relations," the official said.
The American president will also take the opportunity to thank the European Union for its support to Ukraine.
Biden and von der Leyen will discuss a
US-EU deal on so-called critical minerals
, which are imperative to the clean energy transition, the official said.
The idea of a US-EU club on critical minerals to reduce dependence on China, which is one of the richest countries in these elements, had been in the air for a few months.
The Inflation reduction act was also at the center of the conversation between the two leaders, on which "they hope to find common ground".
