Dramatic fate of the 47 people reported yesterday on a boat adrift in Libyan Sar waters.
The migrants had contacted Alarm Phone which in turn signaled the presence of the National Maritime Rescue Coordination Center in Rome, as well as the Maltese and Libyan ones.
The vessel was located in the Libyan Sar area about 100 miles off the coast of the North African country.
The boat was subsequently spotted by the Seabird aircraft which made a distress call by contacting the merchant ship Basilis L which headed towards the punt.
According to reports from the Italian Coast Guard, all the information has also been provided to the Libyan and Maltese authorities.

The Basilis L was unable to rescue the migrants due to the weather conditions.
For their part, the Libyan authorities, due to lack of availability of naval assets, asked for the support of the National Maritime Rescue Coordination Center in Rome which sent an emergency satellite message to all ships in transit.
Four merchant ships were therefore found on the spot.
During the transhipment operations on the Froland motor vessel, the small boat capsized: 17 people, including two injured who will be taken to Malta, managed to get on board, while about 30 fell into the water.
The fifteen survivors, after the stopover in Malta of the two wounded, will reach Italy aboard the motor vessel while the search operations for the missing continue with the
aid of the merchant ships present in the area and with the overflight of two Frontex aircraft.
"The rescue intervention took place - explains the Coast Guard in a note - outside the Italian Sar area of responsibility, recording the inactivity of the other National Maritime Coordination and Rescue Centers involved by area".

For the migrants then, according to Alarm Phone, the night was spent in anguish and fear also in the light of the fact that the small boat, for many hours, was unable to get in touch with the non-governmental organization.
Only at the crack of dawn did the migrants manage to re-establish communications.
