Pope: 'Celibacy? I'm not ready to see him again yet'

2023-03-12T15:11:46.751Z

'We work for peace against indifference. One thing that makes me suffer a lot is the globalization of indifference, turning away and saying: 'What does it matter to me?'" SPECIAL TEN YEARS OF PONTIFICATE (ANSA)

On the subject of priestly celibacy, Pope Francis reiterates: "I am not yet ready to review it, but obviously it is a question of discipline, which exists today and tomorrow may not exist, and has nothing to do with dogma".

The Pontiff affirmed this in an interview with the Argentine site Perfil, on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of his pontificate, also relaunched by the Vatican News portal of the Holy See.

Francis thus specifies what he said two days ago in the interview with the other Argentine site Infobae on the fact that celibacy, being "a discipline" and "a temporary prescription", could be revised.

The wish for the future is "peace": "Peace in tormented Ukraine and in all the other countries that suffer the horror of war", says the Pope in an interview with Fatto Quotidiano on the tenth anniversary of his pontificate: "One thing that makes me suffer a lot is the globalization of indifference, turning away and saying 'What does it matter to me?'" and "thinking that if we didn't make weapons for a year, hunger would end".

Francis then speaks of corruption, which "makes the soul rot": "In the Church, as in politics and in society in general, we must always warn of the grave danger of corruption".

And of the mafia: "the mafia are excommunicated: they have bloody money on their hands. They do business with weapons and drugs. They kill young people and society. They kill the future. We must be clear: there is no place in the Church for the mobsters!"

"It has already been more than a year since the war in Ukraine began. In February I was in Africa, in the Democratic Republic of Congo and in South Sudan, and I saw the horrors of the conflicts in those two countries with the mutilations of people. One thing that makes me suffer a lot is the globalization of indifference - says the Pope -, turning away and saying: "What does it matter to me?

I am not interested!

It is not my problem!".

Then Francis quotes the words of Senator Segre: "When they asked Senator for life Liliana Segre, a Holocaust survivor, what word to write on platform 21 of the Milan station where the trains left for the Nazi concentration camps, she had no doubts and he said: "Indifference". No one had thought of that word".

In an interview with the Argentine newspaper La Nacion, published by Corriere, the pontiff explains that the Vatican works with "a peace service".

And he adds: "I am willing to go to Kiev. I want to go to Kiev. But on condition that I go to Moscow. I will go both places or neither."

"A world meeting is likely, of world representatives on this. There is also an Israeli group that is working on it. It is probable that different groups will get together and do something, right? The Vatican is working", says the Pope.
