In an interview she gave on Jimmy Fallon's talk show, the Colombian singer talked about the song and the difficult time she went through.

"It has been a very difficult year for me since the breakup," she said.

"It was important for me to write this song because I channeled my feelings to a positive place."

Among other things, Shakira said that the song does not only talk about the separation she experienced, and she voices the voice of many women who were in this situation.

"I feel like there is some kind of fellowship, other women who have been in my situation, who think what I think and who had to deal with a lot of crap like I did."
