(ANSA) - ROME, MARCH 12 - Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said that the agreement that allows the export of Ukrainian grain through the Black Sea will be extended with respect to the March 18 deadline.
The Guardian reports it.
The first agreement between Russia and Ukraine was reached in July with the mediation of Istanbul and the UN and was intended to prevent a global food crisis by allowing the safe export of Ukrainian grain blocked by the Russian invasion from three ports.
In November it had been extended for 120 days, with an automatic renewal scheduled for March 18 in the event neither side had opposed: Moscow has said it will accept an extension only if the restrictions affecting its exports are lifted.
Tomorrow, March 13, a meeting is scheduled in Geneva with the United Nations to try to find a solution.
