(ANSA) - BRESCIA, MARCH 13 - A 27-year-old from Brescia was arrested in Nepal by local authorities who accuse him of stealing protected archaeological finds.
The man, Tiziano Ronchi, professor of Visual Arts at the Santa Giulia Academy, is currently in hospital for some previous pathologies.
The teacher is accused of having collected archaeological finds, in particular a wooden fragment, during a visit to a temple in Bhaktapur.
According to the defensive version he would have taken and observed the finds and then put them back where they were originally.
The story is followed by the Farnesina and, more directly, by the Italian consulate.
The detention, Italian diplomatic sources specify, took place last Monday and the Farnesina immediately took action, through the honorary consulate in Kathmandhu, the Italian embassy in New Delhi, also responsible for Nepal, and more closely, the Italian consulate in Calcutta.
Consul Gianluca Rubagotti visited Tiziano Ronchi yesterday in Kathmandhu hospital, where he was taken after his detention following a request made by the lawyer that the consulate found for him, finding him in fair health.
