(ANSA) - ROME, MARCH 13 - The Russian Defense Ministry is sending Wagner mercenaries to Bakhmut to die in an attempt to weaken its founder Yevgeny Prigozhin and derail his ambitions for greater influence in the Kremlin.
The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) writes it in its analysis, explaining that Prigozhin overestimated Putin's confidence in his paramilitary forces.
Not only that: Prigozhin's military-political ambitions probably alarmed the Russian president, who saw Prigozhin's aggressive self-promotion at the expense of others as a threat: Minister Shoigu and Chief of Staff Gerasimov.
