It is probably the first judgment of this kind in Spain: There, a man has to pay his ex-wife compensation of a good 204,000 euros for 25 years of housework.
A judge in Vélez-Málaga decided that, the Spanish newspaper
La Vanguardia
and other media reported on March 9.
The German Press Agency (dpa) describes what happened to the 48-year-old, according to her descriptions to the newspaper: In her marriage she not only had to take care of the household and children, but also had to work in her husband's gym.
She toiled at least ten hours a day.
But she received neither financial nor moral recognition for this.

"According to experts, it is probably the first judgment of this kind in Spain," writes dpa - although Article 1438 of the country's civil code provides for financial compensation for housework after a separation under certain conditions, such as the signing of an agreement on the separation of property.
The ruling could send out a signal as it "opens the door to lawsuits from other women,"

The 48-year-old reportedly said that despite the law, many lawyers she contacted warned her that she would only waste time and money by filing such a lawsuit.
As the dpa report goes on to say, the compensation that has now been awarded to her was calculated on the basis of the minimum salary.
In addition, according to the verdict, she will receive maintenance for herself and her daughters.
"I only talk to the media so that women are encouraged to demand what is due to them," said the 48-year-old.
"There are many women who are helpless."
