From March 15, students and technical school students should be able to apply for the long-awaited energy price flat rate of 200 euros.

Exactly how it works.

Millions of workers and pensioners have already benefited from the energy flat rate.

Soon, after a long delay, it will finally be the turn of the students and technical students.

However, the one-time payment does not flow automatically with them.

Instead, according to the German Press Agency (dpa) and a report by

Tagesschau.de

, they should be able to apply for the energy flat rate of 200 euros nationwide from March 15th.

Energy flat rate of 200 euros – who gets the one-off payment?

Around 3.5 million students and technical students are entitled to the energy allowance of 200 euros.

Important requirement: The students must have been enrolled on December 1, 2022.

According to the dpa, this also applies to (vocational) technical students who must have been registered at the respective training center by December 1st of the previous year.

Residence and place of training must be in Germany.

If you stay in another country for a short time, for example for a semester abroad or an internship, you are still entitled to the 200 euros.

Where can I apply for the energy flat rate?

Anyone who wants to be eligible for the 200 euros must submit an application via the online platform “Einmalzahlen200.de”, which was set up especially for this purpose.

The application can be made from March 15, dpa reported on Tuesday (March 14).

In order to save time, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) advises those affected to take a few steps promptly.

That should speed up the process.

According to dpa, a so-called BundID account is required in any case for the application.

This must be created using an ID card with an online function (eID) and an associated app that can be used to read the ID documents – such as “AusweisApp2”.

Alternatively, registration works with an Elster certificate or by entering a user name and password, the report from Tuesday said.

But that's not all: In addition, an access code is required, which is provided by the university or training center.

Only with this can students, trainees and technical students access the application form on the website.
