(ANSA) - FLORENCE, MARCH 14 - The act of liberation from slavery of Caterina, Leonardo's mother, signed by the notary Piero da Vinci, has been found in the State Archives of Florence.
This was confirmed by Carlo Vecce, presenting his book 'Caterina's smile', published by Giunti, written on the basis of this act and also on other documentation.
For some years, explained Vecce, there had been the hypothesis that Caterina could be a slave.
"A bit by chance, a few years ago, these documents came out, I started studying them to prove that this slave Caterina was not Leonardo's mother, but in the end all the evidence went in the opposite direction, especially this document of release".
"The notary who frees Caterina is the same person who loved her when she was still a slave and from whom she had this child" Vecce explained again.
