The British Tory government of Rishi Sunak is ready to evaluate the ban of Tik Tok from smartphones used for work by public officials, as has already been done by the EU Commission and more than half of US states, fearing that the Chinese app could allow Beijing espionage infiltration of communications and sensitive data collection, as well as potential privacy violations.
The indication - already evoked by Prime Minister Sunak on the sidelines of the San Diego summit of the new Aukus alliance, the military pact signed with the USA and Australia in order to contain China in the Pacific - was taken up today by Deputy Minister Tom Tugendhat, Head of Security National in the Tory team.
Interviewed by Sky News, Tugendhat announced that he had ordered an ad hoc investigation by the National Cyber Security Center (NCSC) to establish the extent of the alleged risk and explore the experiences of allied countries that have already started introducing the ban.
