"The level of collaboration with Kenya is exemplary and can be a model replicated everywhere. Common problems can be tackled effectively with a cooperation module. We are looking for a collaborative relationship with the countries of origin of the flows but we know that the epochal

dimension and growing migratory phenomenon cannot be tackled by a single country, but only with a lucid and well-organized European action that tackles the problem with systemic action

".

President Sergio Mattarella said this speaking from Nairobi.

"Italy is looking for a collaborative relationship with the countries of origin and transit of the flows, but we know that the epochal dimension of this phenomenon, growing in every part of the world, cannot be tackled on a bilateral level, it can only be tackled with a joint, clear, well-organized European action, which tackles this great epochal problem in a systemic way, which is presented through the Mediterranean, but not only through the Mediterranean, also through the Balkan route", explained the president Sergio Mattarella in a brief press conference.

"These are two aspects that intersect good bilateral collaborative relations and a conscious, organic action that the European Union can carry out on all tables, including that of migration".

"We are close to Kenya, a pillar of stability on the African continent" and we want "EU cooperation with Kenya to be intensified".

Thus the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella after the meeting at the State House in Nairobi with the President of the Republic of Kenya, William Ruto.

"Italy considers Kenya a virtuous example of democracy and a virtuous and sustainable growth model. Relations between our two countries are excellent", added the Head of State.

We see "alarming" signs of climate change.

We see "serious symptoms" such as drought leading to "serious consequences".

For this reason "we urge you to proceed decisively on the road to measures" to be taken to combat climate change, Mattarella also said.

"This is a theme, that of drought, which derives from climate change and which is creating enormous difficulties. Drought creates a food crisis that further pushes migratory phenomena. The theme is central. We also feel drought in Europe. There is a general condition in the world that leads to real awareness. It is in the government's program to commit itself against climate change and Italy has long felt the need for a serious and concrete commitment. We are sorry that some countries want to postpone the problem to a second half that doesn't exist," added Mattarella.

The President of the Republic is in Nairobi for a three-day state visit to Kenya.

This is the umpteenth mission of the head of state to a sub-Saharan African country, testifying to the attention that Italy has been dedicating to the continent for some years.

The president began his visit to Kenya this morning by meeting President Ruto in Nairobi.
