(ANSA) - MEXICO CITY, MARCH 15 - The Mexican national airline Aeromexico will operate for the first time in its history, starting from March 25, 2023, a direct flight between Mexico City and Rome.
The launch event for the new route, reports a note, took place on Monday at the Four Seasons hotel in Mexico City, in the presence of the Italian Embassy and the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Mexico.
The flight will initially have 4 weekly frequencies, while from June it will be operated on a daily basis.
According to reports from Aeromexico's top management, the Mexico City-Rome route will have the best occupancy rate for the upcoming summer period compared to the other routes operated by the airline to European capitals (Paris, Amsterdam, Madrid and London).
Tourist flows, which in the pre-pandemic era reached 150,000 units in both directions, are registering a sharp increase in recent months: the Italian tourists who visited Mexico in 2022 were over 122,000 and the month of January 2023 presented an increase in flows by 90% compared to the same period in 2022.
According to the Italian Ambassador to Mexico, Luigi DeChiara, "the direct flight is an indispensable tool for realizing the great potential of tourist flows between the two countries".
"It is also a great opportunity to further increase the economic-commercial relationship between Italy and Mexico", he added.
