France: pensions, decisive hours between parliament and squares

(ANSA) - PARIS, MARCH 15 - A crucial day for the conflict over pension reform in France: the Cmp, an equal commissioner, made up of 7 deputies and 7 senators, has already met to find a compromise on the definitive text to be submitted to the two branches of the chambers Tomorrow.

   At the same time, in the squares, the eighth day of mobilization with strikes and demonstrations, to make the government withdraw from its purpose precisely on the eve of the possible vote in Parliament.

    If the Senate approved the text of the law last weekend, the National Assembly does not have the same absolute majority for the government and has to look for the missing votes in recent hours among the moderate right of the Républicains.

If deputies do not have the numbers, the path for the government will be uphill and risks leading to a vote of confidence on pensions.

    The latter eventuality is defined as "very dangerous" by the unions, given the opposition of the majority of the French to the increase of the retirement age from 62 to 64 years.

    If participation in the marches has been decreasing in the last 10 days, the level of discomfort for citizens due to the abstention from work of some categories remains high: from transport, the highest rate of strikers moved to the energy sector - several petrol stations are already in reserve - and garbage.

Yesterday evening, given the accumulation of rubbish also on the streets of Paris, the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, asked the mayor of the capital, Anne Hidalgo, to proceed with the ordering of urban sanitation personnel.

    For the demonstration in Paris - foreseen by Invalides aplace d'Italie - the information services of the Interior have foreseen the arrival in the capital of at least 1,400 "radical elements" close to the ultra-left, "yellow vests", black bloce "casseur".

Strengthen the security measures and the protective equipment of the police and gendarmes.
