Clashes are underway at the demonstration in Athens: the police charged some groups of demonstrators and used stun grenades, ANSA noted.

Demonstrators demand justice for the victims of the Tebi train tragedy, near Larissa.

The procession in the square has dispersed but some groups of demonstrators are heading towards the university chased by the police.

The demonstration in Athens is made up of various marches led by various political and trade unions, as part of the general strike of public and private sector workers called across the country to demand truth and justice after the Tebi incident, which took place on February 28 last year, where 57 people lost their lives.

Thousands of people are taking part in demonstrations in all major cities of Greece.

About 40,000 people - according to the Greek media - are marching in the center of Athens, and thousands more have invaded the center of Thessaloniki.

The general strike has paralyzed

all transport, including connections to the islands.

The mobilization was organized by trade unions, parties and movements of the left.

Many students in the square: most of the 57 victims of the catastrophic accident - caused by inadequate structures and personnel - were university students.

The police have massively deployed in the central Athenian square of Syntagma, overlooked by the Parliament, and around the offices of the Hellenic Train company in via Petmeza, towards which the part of the demonstration led by the Pame movement is pointing.

The previous strike, which took place on 8 March, gathered around 65 thousand people in the country and today's mobilization promises to be equally

impressive.

"We ask that the real culprits of Tebi's crime be brought to light and that the privatization policy of public services be stopped; we also ask that the protection of work and life is no longer treated as an expense item" in the budget, yes reads in the communiqué of Adedy, the Confederation of Greek Public Employees' Unions.
