Intensify control activities in the areas adjacent to the railway stations of Rome, Naples and Milan.

This is the indication contained in a directive sent by the Minister of the Interior,

Matteo Piantedosi

, to the prefects of the three cities to ensure "a strengthened and visible presence of the police forces" and offer "a more effective response to the need for protection in areas where the perception of insecurity is widespread".

In particular, on the basis of the indications provided by the owner of the Viminale, the

prefects

, integrating the coordinated control plans of the territory by the police forces, will have to activate specific surveillance devices in the areas adjacent to the stations with the aim of placing them more permanently safely and thus return them to full usability by the reference communities.

With the availability of the mayors concerned, further involvement of the local police must be envisaged and at the same time the commitment of the Guardia di Finanza must be enhanced in terms of the economic-financial assessment action against the activity managers.

The directive was adopted on the basis of the results already achieved thanks to the "high impact" joint operations carried out since 10 January in the three main railway stations of Rome, Milan and Naples and then extended to other areas of the city, affected by the phenomenon of malamovida and from drug dealing.

"These are - notes the Viminale - extraordinary territorial control services that have seen the use of personnel from the State Police, the Carabinieri and the Guardia di Finanza, with the collaboration of the local Police and the assistance of other entities (local health authorities, labor inspectorates, municipal companies), and have made it possible to increase the prevention and repression of the various forms of illegality. For the implementation of this intervention module,

which will be repeated systematically in the coming weeks, from 10 January to 17 March, 10,449 units of the police forces were employed, to which were added 906 belonging to the municipal police forces of Rome, Milan and Naples and 687 employees of other entities (companies authorities, labor inspectorate, asl).

93,459 people were checked, of which 26,763 were foreigners, with 248 arrests and 1,243 people reported.

The checks also concerned 11,197 vehicles and 2,534 public establishments, where 419 irregular workers were identified.

266 foreigners were expelled, 55 of whom were accompanied to detention centers for repatriation.

As a result of the police activity, 161 personal prevention measures were also ordered, as well as 43 mandatory exit papers and as many as 118 bans on access to urban areas.

3,118 administrative violations were also ascertained, in addition to 543 of a fiscal nature.

Furthermore, money, counterfeit or unsafe goods (including food, clothing, toys and other products), drugs, vehicles and weapons were seized.
