Thousands of people marched in Lisbon today to demand higher wages and other measures to counter the rising cost of living.
The march, called by the CGTP, the country's main trade union confederation, came the day after the nationwide strike by civil servants in support of wage increases.
The protest has affected waste collection, schools and hospitals.
The union is asking the government to implement a package of measures against poverty, including the control of the prices of basic necessities and interventions to limit the soaring rents and the cost of real estate loans.
In 2022, inflation reached 7.4%, the highest level in 30 years.
The general secretary of the CGTP, Isabel Camarinha,
