(ANSA) - BOGOTÁ, MARCH 20 - Following an armed attack on police units, Colombian President Gustavo Petro announced the suspension of the ceasefire that had been arranged against the Clan del Golfo, a powerful organization operating in Colombia and integrated by elements of the paramilitarism right-wing and drug trafficking.
Via Twitter, Petro stressed that "the attack with a rifle on a police contingent by the Clan del Golfo broke the ceasefire".
For which "the public force must take immediate action against the structures of the mafia organization".
After the announcement, Defense Minister Iván Velásquez confirmed that both the military and the police have begun carrying out offensive operations to ensure safety for the population in southern Córdoba and Antioch.
