(ANSA) - ROME, MARCH 20 - Spending for civil servants and personnel outside the administration in 2021 reached 172,112 million with an increase of 3.1% on 2020: this is what emerges from the annual account of the state accountant according to which respect in 2012 expenditure increased by 7.3% overall and by 5.7% for the same entities.
The figure is current prices and was linked to the pay freeze.
Expenditure for personnel decreased compared to 2012, especially for central functions (-13.3%) and for local functions (-15.1%) while it increased for education (+19.5%), a figure linked to the trend of employment.
In 2021 civil servants reached 3,238,968 units, down by 0.1% (less than 5 thousand units) compared to 2020, explains the Accounting Office according to which there was substantial stability compared to 2012 and a drop of 1.1% in parity of entities considered.
Compared to 2012 there was a decrease of 23.5% for the personnel of the central functions (ministries, INPS, Inail, tax agencies, etc.), from 266,306 to 203,831, from a decrease of 15.7% for the local functions and an increase of 15.3% for education and research with over 167,000 more workers.
