Thus Libera, the association that for years has dedicated March 21 to national mobilization in memory of the victims of organized crime, has decided to include the shipwrecked people of Cutro in the list of over a thousand innocent dead.
He did so at a national level but, above all, in Crotone, in front of that Palamilone which has become a symbol of pain and where even today there are some of the bodies of the migrants who died in the tragedy of last February 26th.
In the general silence, in front of a few hundred students, three girls from the Gravina high school read the names of the 35 minors (including 26 children under 12) and more than 50 adults - men and women - who found death a few meters from the Calabrian beach after a five-day crossing.
They only read their names and not their surnames because, explained Bruno Palermo, a volunteer from Libera Crotone, "each of us feels like these victims are family members, as if we had lost someone in the family".
"We decided it with don Luigi Ciotti - added Palermo - because we believe that these are innocent victims of the mafias of human traffickers who do business with the Italian mafias who enjoy the support of people who turn away pretending not to see what happens in the seas and in front of their coasts".
The names of the 250 innocent people killed in Calabria by the 'Ndrangheta were then read out.
