"NATO supports the European Union in its action against illegal immigration
, we are a military alliance and the EU has means at its disposal that we do not have. But we work with partners such as Mauritania and Tunisia to strengthen their capacity and therefore their stability. But we have seen the increase of the Russian presence in Africa and this shows that NATO does not have the luxury of being able to choose which sources to concentrate on, it must be active at 360 degrees. Like on the protection of critical infrastructures, many of which are found in the Mediterranean".
This was stated by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
As for the war in Ukraine, Stoltenberg said that
"it is my prerogative to convene the NATO-Ukraine commission and I believe that the time has come"
, clarifying that the meeting will take place within the framework of the April Foreign Ministerial and that the format will more regular in the future.
The Atlantic secretary also underlined that
"At the Vilnius summit (21-22 July) I expect the leaders to agree that 2% of GDP is the minimum as regards defense spending"
.
