Poste: about 50 million euros of fraud prevented in 2022

Over one million reports managed and fraud attempts foiled for around 50 million euros in 2022 alone. These are the numbers of Poste Italiane which has inaugurated its new Fraud Prevention Center in Rome.

The fraud prevention center, explains the company, supervises 24 hours a day the security of transactions carried out in over 12,800 post offices throughout the country and online, through payment cards, on e-commerce operations and on those of the insurance branch of Poste Vita.

More than 100 specialists employed in the center, with a long experience in the field of financial security and cyber security, together with young graduates selected from the best Italian universities.

Also in 2022, according to a note from the company, "in the payment card segment, the prevention action made it possible to reduce the incidence of fraudulent events against Poste customers by 50%, equal to 0.0015 % of the total, in contrast to the 90% increase recorded worldwide in the same period As regards controls on Poste Vita's activities, in the first few months of 2023 the prevention center successfully treated 6,200 cases, thwarting fraud for large values".

Every year, with its 35 million customers, over 20 million of whom have digital interactions via the web and apps, Poste Italiane manages around 2.5 billion transactions, for a value of around 200 billion euros.

Poste Italiane's new Fraud Prevention Center was inaugurated by the president Maria Bianca Farina, the CEO Matteo Del Fante and the co-director general Giuseppe Lasco, in the presence of the president of the National Anti-Corruption Authority, Giuseppe Busia, of the Chief of Staff of the Guard of Finance, Francesco Greco, of the central director of the Specialties of the State Police, Daniela Stradiotto, of the director of the Postal Police, Ivano Gabrielli, of the director of the Financial Intelligence Unit for Italy, Enzo Serata, and of the members of the authorities and Bank of Italy officials.
