(ANSA) - ROME, MARCH 21 - Director Citto Maselli has died at the age of 92.
This was announced by Maurizio Acerbo, national secretary of the Communist Refoundation Party - European Left.
"It is with great sadness that I have to communicate the news of the death of comrade Citto Maselli, which took place a little while ago. I have just learned of it from his wife, Stefania Brai, who has always been close to him and to whom the supportive embrace of all the comrades of the Party goes. The Italian cinema and culture lose a master and a great director, the left a militant intellectual and an example of rigor and consistency".
Born in Rome on 9 December 1930, documentary maker and assistant to Antonioni and Visconti, Maselli made his directing debut with Glisbandati (1956).
His films, which investigate contemporary reality, include Dolphins (1961), The Indifferent (1967), Suspicion (1975), A Love Story (1986), Private Code (1988), Dawn (1991), Chronicles of the third millennium (1996), Fragments of the twentieth century (2005), Red shadows (2009), Scossa (directed with Gregoretti, Lizzani and Russo, 2011).
