The public prosecutor's office in Monaco had included Pope Benedict XVI among the defendants in the proceeding on sexual abuse in the archbishopric of Monaco and Freising: the former pontiff, who died last December 31, was accused of not having prevented a pedophile priest with his behavior from continue to commit violence against minors.
However, the prosecutor's office itself has also closed the case, according to reports from some German media, including Dpa.
Among the accused were also Cardinal Friedrich Wetter and the former vicar general Gerhard Gruber, for whom the proceedings were also shelved.
