"Why is it important to remember the attack, if it was so long ago?"
is one of the "frequent and not so frequent questions" that appear on the new website that the Israeli embassy in Argentina prepared to keep the memory of the terrorist attack on that diplomatic headquarters, carried out by the Hezbollah organization 31 years ago.
Let us remember: at 2:45 p.m. on March 17, 1992, a very powerful bomb loaded inside a Ford F-100 van destroyed, on the charming corner of Arroyo and Suipacha, not only the Israeli embassy but also part of a church and a school causing
the death of 29 people and more than 200 injured.
What was it like before the attack?
It was
the first international terrorist attack that Argentina received.
Two years later, the AMIA attack would take place, in which another 85 people died.
Unlike other countries that suffer this type of attack,
here both remain unpunished.
Why is it important to remember the attack, if it was so long ago?, then.
Because you have to
"exercise memory like a muscle so that it does not atrophy"
and
"so that forgetfulness does not cover the need for answers and the lack of punishment for the guilty"
, answers, among other things, the same embassy on the site .

It was with this spirit that Congress voted -unanimously-, in 2017, a law that establishes March 17 as the Day of Solidarity with the Victims of the Attack on the Israeli Embassy and also that the issue be incorporated into the plan
of studies of Argentine schools.
Nobody knows how much of this is true today in the classroom, but to facilitate the task, the Israeli embassy created the site to remember the attack, with
useful pedagogical tools for teaching planning
, an interesting video aimed at young people and adolescents, and other content. For those who want to know more about the subject.
The elaboration had the accompaniment of the Ministry of National Education.
Video for use in schools about the attack on the Israeli embassy.
Much has been said lately about what and how schools have to teach today.
It is clear that, at least, basic knowledge (Language and Mathematics).
But also, in a world riddled with hate speech and
fake news,
working
rigorously
on issues such as the embassy attack will be necessary if we want
more informed
citizens committed to values such as
democracy, tolerance, freedom and justice. .
