(ANSA) - ROME, MARCH 22 - In the world 2 billion people do not have safe water to drink and 3.6 billion, almost half of the world's population use toilets that leave human waste untreated.
These are the data from the Unicef and WHO Report which also states that every year at least 1.4 million people, many of them children, die of preventable causes linked to unsafe water and poor sanitation.
Half of all healthcare settings - where good hygiene practices are particularly important - do not have soap and water or alcohol-based hand sanitizer solutions.
The Unicef-WHO report released on World Water Day also points out that half of all health care facilities - where good hygiene practices are particularly important - do not have soap and water or alcohol-based hand sanitizing solutions.
The two organizations underline that: "we have possible solutions and the historic opportunity to translate them into actions" and urge governments to undertake them with the support of UN agencies, multilateral partners, the private sector and civil society organizations.
"The key to unlocking universal access to water and sanitation services is here - we read - we just have to seize it. (ANSA).
