Ten thousand seats, grandstands that can be disassembled to also allow for concerts and trade fair events, shops, stores for sponsors, two basketball courts (one for training) and a 'dynamic shell' that will envelop the whole building: a sort of backdrop that like a large suspended lantern will tell visitors, fans and the city of Bologna about the activities that take place inside the Palazzetto.
This will be the new home of Virtus Segafredo Bologna, "an iconic, modular, energy-efficient building", as defined by the architect Michele Roveri, of the Mario Cucinella Architects studio that designed the plant.
The multipurpose pavilion that will be built in the exhibition center (on the current pavilion 35) was presented this morning by the mayor of Bologna Matteo Lepore, the president of Bologna Virtus Segafredo, Massimo Zanetti, the president of BolognaFiere Gianpiero Calzolari and the architect Roveri himself.
The project will soon begin the process in the Giunta and in the City Council.
"We will make the most of the potential and spaces of the Fair 365 days a year - said Lepore - we are proud like Basket City to present a project like this. It is also a message to the Euroleague, where Virtus is back and we want to stay there with an adequate infrastructure".
"The investment will be around 55 million euros - explained Calzolari - our idea is to complete the work by Christmas 2024,
"Mine is a contribution to the city of Bologna - said the president Zanetti - I made promises when I took Virtus and I think I kept them, even that of giving it a home, one day I will be gone and whoever takes Virtus will find it with his home. To stay in the Euroleague, a Palazzetto and an adequate facility are essential".
