UEFA has opened an investigation into Barcelona in reference to the scandal born of the investigation by the Spanish judiciary into the payment of money by the Catalan club to the company of the former vice president of Spanish referees, Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira.
"In accordance with Article 31(4) of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations, UEFA's Ethics and Disciplinary Inspectors have been appointed today to conduct an investigation into a potential breach of the legal UEFA by FC Barcelona in connection with the so-called Negreira Case. Further information on this will be made available in due course."
The Catalan club is therefore officially under the magnifying glass of UEFA, which - according to Spanish media reports - could sanction Laporta's club if it believes that there have been irregularities that violate its disciplinary code.
One of these penalties could be being prevented from playing your competitions (Champions League, Europa League or Conference League) for a certain time.
