(ANSA) - ROME, MARCH 23 - A new rescue operation has just finished - after that of this morning - carried out under the coordination of the Coast Guard of Catania, in favor of a fishing boat, identified about 100 miles east of Syracuse, with about 450 migrants.
The unit, in precarious navigable conditions, was reached and rescued by the Corsi ship and a Coast Guard patrol boat.
Also assisting on site are 3 merchant ships and a Frontex patrol vessel.
Previously, starting in the early hours of this morning, Coast Guard vehicles had intervened in favor of a fishing boat with many migrants on board in the Italian SAR area of responsibility and in particular about 90 miles from the Calabrian Ionian coast.
In the operation, coordinated by the Reggio Calabria Coast Guard, 295 migrants were rescued.
The people rescued were recovered and transported safely on three Coast Guard patrol boats.
