(ANSA) - BRUSSELS, MARCH 23 - The summit of the 27 today and tomorrow is underway in Brussels.

The European Council will be dedicated to various topics, from Ukraine to the economic situation, while that of migrants will not be addressed.

The UN secretary general Antonio Guterres was also a guest: "This visit shows the excellent cooperation between the UN and the EU: we are at a crucial moment, in many countries there is a perfect storm and we are going backwards because we see more poverty, more hunger less education and our international financial system is not fit to meet the challenge".

"We are counting on the EU to lead the progress of the 2030 agenda," he noted.

"Today, with the UN secretary, we will talk about the court on the crime of aggression. The arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court is a good sign, it shows that no leader is immune to crimes, but the ICC deals with war crimes and crimes against humanity, not of the crimes of aggression and on this we need the UN".

This was stated by the Estonian premier KajaKallas arriving at the European Council.

Also present was Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni who, upon her arrival at the Council, declared: "" On migrants "I expect steps forward.

On the Stability Pact "there are always quite different visions but I think the EU must learn from its mistakes, from the past. Today everyone is being asked for major investments for the ecological, digital transition, for strategic supply chains. One cannot think that the investments necessary to make our system competitive are not taken into account in governance" said Giorgia Meloni.

"It would be tragic for us to go back to the previous parameters, we need governance that is more attentive to growth", she added.
