Anti-pension reform protesters of the CGT union of Roissy Charles de Gaulle, Paris' main airport, blocked the A1 motorway leading to terminal 1 of the airport.

Endless queues of cars and taxis are waiting to be released, while lines of travelers are forced to walk along the edge of the highway to reach their terminal.

Macron: 'The pension reform goes ahead in the interest of the nation'

'The no-confidence motion' failed, the president said on TV. "We respect the demonstrations, not the violence".

'Social security reform is not a luxury but a necessity to bring the system back into balance'.

The president acknowledged that 'the government's proposals on strenuous jobs are not strong and strenuous enough'

In the aftermath of the president's TV interview which aroused criticism of the poison from trade unions and oppositions, the French are going ahead with the ninth day of strikes and national mobilizations against Emmanuel Macron's pension reform.

Interviewed live on TF1 and France 2 after weeks of social tensions, Macron went straight on his way, declaring that the reform - the most important of his five-year term at the Elysée - will be applied "by the end of the year" and said he was ready to assume all "the unpopularity necessary, in the name of the best interests of the nation".

"This reform is not a pleasure, it is not a luxury, it is a necessity", hammered the head of state in the interview followed by 10 million viewers according to data from Médiametrie, convinced of the relevance of his project which provides for the raising progressive retirement age from 62 to 64 years.

A level that would in any case remain below that introduced years ago by all the other major European partners, including Italy and Germany.

However, opponents consider the reform "unfair", in particular, with respect to women and employees with strenuous jobs.

The police expect today "between 600,000 and 800,000" demonstrators in about 320 rallies expected throughout France. In Paris, the march will leave at 2 pm from Place de la Bastille in the direction of Place de l'Opéra. About 500 yellow vests and another 500 "radical elements" are expected in Paris and "over a dozen cities in the province will be the object of demonstrations by the ultra-left", state the forces of order. And in the meantime blockades continue on oil depots, but also on ports , roads, air transport, the energy sector and universities.
