The court defense attorney for the mafia boss Matteo Messina Denaro, accused in Caltanissetta in the appeal process in which he is accused of being one of the instigators of the massacres of Capaci and via D'Amelio, still changes.
The lawyer Calogero Montante, appointed public defender of the boss last March 9, in fact asked and obtained to be released from office for health reasons.
Montante, who already at the time of assigning the appointment had claimed to be incompatible with the position since in the past he had been the public defender of the false repentant Vincenzo Scarantino both in Borsellino quater and on appeal, and about ten days ago he had denounced to the police that he had been subjected to death threats, he presented a medical certificate of illness with a prognosis of at least one month for the surgery he underwent.
Pg Antonino Patti did not oppose the request and the lawyer Pietro Pistone replaced the criminal lawyer in the courtroom today, who insisted on the request for deferment of the treatment advanced by the public defender.
The Court therefore appointed the lawyer Adriana Vella as the new public defender, who asked for a deadline for the defense in order to study the file.
The hearing in the trial was therefore postponed to May 25, at 9.30, still in the bunker room of the Malaspina prison in Caltanissetta.
Also in this case the video link with the prison of L'Aquila where Matteo Messina Denaro is held will be reactivated.
The boss also declined to appear this morning.
"Messina Denaro is a defendant like any other and I will defend him as I would for anyone else," said Vella.
"The file is very extensive - he added - and therefore I have to study it. I'm not afraid, if one does one's job one need not fear anything. The only thing that scares me is the commitment I will have to face in these days but not the fact that I defend Messina Money".
