Strikes on Thursday March 23: in Paris, the demonstration will go from the Place de la Bastille to the Opéra Garnier

For the ninth day of mobilization against the pension reform, the unions hope again to gather massive processions across the country, capitalizing on the anger generated by the use of 49.3.

Demonstrations are planned in many cities, including Bordeaux, Lyon, Lille, Nantes, Strasbourg and Montpellier.

In Paris, the demonstrators will travel a well-known route.

This Thursday, March 23, the participants will leave at 2 p.m. from Place de la Bastille, in the 11th arrondissement of the capital.

They will then head towards Place de la République, via Boulevard Beaumarchais and Boulevard du Temple.

The procession will then branch off towards the Opéra Garnier, its terminus, by taking Boulevard Saint-Martin, in order to pass in front of Porte Saint-Denis, Bonne Nouvelle, and turn off onto Boulevard des Italiens.

This route had already been taken, in the opposite direction, on March 7th.

After several evenings of mobilizations enamelled with violence, the unions hope to relaunch the protest against the reform to bend the executive, despite the final vote of Parliament.

The processions have been significantly less provided since the beginning of March: after a peak on the 7th of the month, only 368,000 demonstrators were counted throughout France on Saturday March 11, according to the police, and one million according to the CGT.

This is the lowest figure since mid-January.

On Wednesday 15, a limited rebound had been observed in the country, but the figures remained below the first days of mobilization.

In Paris, the peak was recorded on Saturday February 11, with 93,000 demonstrators.

A level that has never been reached since: between March 7 and March 15, the size of the procession was halved, according to the police and the CGT.

Faced with the risk of overflows, the Ministry of the Interior will mobilize 5,000 police and gendarmes in the capital, while 40,000 to 70,000 people are expected, according to police sources quoted by AFP.
