Did the baby fall asleep? One of the positions in which he chooses to sleep affects the way he studies the world

If you recently gave birth, you are probably familiar with the Ministry of Health's recommendation not to lay soft babies on their stomachs without supervision to avoid the risk of cot death.

However, there are parents who choose to allow the baby to lie on his stomach, and if you are one of them, you have probably noticed an interesting position he chooses when he lies on his stomach: his legs are tucked in, and his hands are folded under his chest.

This is the embryonic subordination.

Dorit Ben Meir

, diagnostician and therapist for motor development, sleep counseling and infant massage, explains that the fetal bending, which he was in the womb and to which he is accustomed, is one of the most important developmental stages in the first year of the baby's life.

This position is physiological, and takes place in the baby for about 6 weeks after birth.

Besides the baby's natural inclination to the position he is used to from the womb, there is another reason why the baby chooses it - it is his way of regulating the world.

Imagine you are lying on your back at home, unable to move.

Ask whoever is with you at home to behave in the space, talk loudly, laugh, turn the light on and off several times, stand over you and activate various stimuli.

how would you feel

Probably with some discomfort, to say the least.

If so, the fetal bending allows the baby to regulate the stimuli of the house around him and to start getting to know the new world at his own pace, with a maximum sense of security.

You will be able to preserve this feeling even when you carry the baby in your arms in a cradle position, and of course when he is in a carrier next to you.

In the following weeks of his life, the baby will begin to develop his motor skills from this position and will recognize his body thanks to it.

The Jama application was established with the aim of responding to mothers of babies between the ages of birth and three, and to gather for them content, activities, tips from experts and videos that will accompany them throughout this challenging period.

All the content in the application "grows" together with the baby and is precisely adapted to the stages of his development, so that the mothers receive only what is relevant to them and interests them at any given moment.

The Jama app is the place for mothers in Israel to meet and get to know other mothers around them, and to create new and exciting friendships in the fascinating journey.
