MILAN - Helmut Newton. Legacy, a large-scale retrospective conceived for the hundredth anniversary of the photographer's birth (Berlin, 1920 - Los Angeles, 2004), was postponed due to the pandemic.

Open until 25 June, the exhibition traces the entire career of one of the masters of photography through 250 photographs, magazines, documents and videos.

Promoted by the Municipality of Milan-Culture and produced by Palazzo Reale and Marsilio Arte, in collaboration with the Helmut Newton Foundation of Berlin, the exhibition is part of Milan Art Week (11-16 April 2023), the widespread event coordinated by the to Culture of the Municipality of Milan, in collaboration with miart.

Curated by Matthias Harder, director of the Helmut Newton Foundation, and by Denis Curti,

artistic director of the Stanze della Fotografia in Venice, the exhibition presents a corpus of shots - seen for the first time in Italy - which reveal lesser-known aspects of Newton's work.

"This exhibition, which celebrates the 100th anniversary of Helmut Newton's birth, offers the opportunity to retrace the entire career of one of the most influential photographers of the 20th century - said the Councilor for Culture Tommaso Sacchi -. An exhibition that Palazzo Reale dedicates to a great master of photography, continuing to explore this artistic language and offering visitors, also during the Milan Art Week, not only an extensive and fascinating retrospective of the work of a great artist, but also the portrait of a era".
