(ANSA) - UDINE, MARCH 24 - "It's true our prisons are overcrowded, we have large projects to reduce this criticality. A long-term project concerns the disposal of old prisons, such as Regina Coeli which can be sold on the market, providing for the construction of new ones houses, but also a long-term project, a more ambitious and defined solution, to use a series of buildings, starting with disused barracks, which have a structure compatible with prisons".
Thus the Minister of Justice Carlo Nordio, on the report of the iCpt, the anti-torture organ of the Council of Europe, according to which Italian prisons are "violent and overcrowded" (ANSA).
